CHINA has built a quarantine camp for 4,000 people amid fears of another huge Covid outbreak.
An army of 600 workers built the massive centre with thousands of isolation units in just five days.
A time-lapse video, released by state broadcaster CCTV, shows construction crews labouring day and night to build the emergency facility.
It comes amid fears of a Covid outbreak in the northern Hebei Province, which is the latest virus hotspot in the country.
Workers have been on site for 24 hours non-stop, despite freezing temperatures.
Some 606 furnished suites will be ready today and another 1,173 will be finished tomorrow, according to local authorities.
The camp spans across 108 acres and will hold thousands of suspected coronavirus carriers.
The Government also placed northern Chinese cities in lockdown to slow down a new wave of infections hitting the country in recent weeks.
CASE SURGE
China reported 118 new infections on Tuesday, with 43 of those in the province of Jilin.
The construction began on January 13 in the Zhengding county on the outskirts of Shijiazhuang city.
In less than six days of building, 1,195 of the makeshift units have been completed and are ready for furnishing, says the China Construction Second Engineering Bureau.
Meanwhile, Beijing reported just one new case.
The northern province of Liaoning has imposed quarantines and travel restrictions to prevent the virus from further spreading.
These stringent measures are focused on preventing new outbreaks during during February´s Lunar New Year holiday.
