Donald Trump has been cleared of inciting a mob to attack the US Capitol following an impeachment trial in the Senate.
The Senate vote of 57-43 fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict Trump, who was the only president to be impeached twice and was once again protected by Republicans despite no longer being in office.
The acquittal was expected after Republican senators indicated they would not vote to convict the property tycoon.
In the vote, seven of the 50 Senate Republicans joined the chamber’s unified Democrats in favoring conviction.
