The president of te Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo On Tuesday, 11th August 2020, cut the sod for the construction of a new 400-bed Maternity and Gynecological Centre for the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, which is to be constructed at a cost of 145.2 million euros.The 12-storey maternity block, when completed, according to Nana Akufo-Addo, will have a complete functional package with the delivery of maternal services with the following components: 400-bed capacity, 20 labour delivery room, 100-seater waiting area, 26 recovery wards, 18 treatment rooms, 24 consulting rooms, seven theatres, IVF services, accommodation for new mothers, 32-seater restaurant with a preparation area and an emergency unit..He also cut the sod for the construction of a 101-bed Urology and Nephrology at Korle-Bu, which will cost some 38 million euros.
Later in the day, he went to Labadi, where he cut the sod for the commencement of work for the redevelopment of the La General Hospital, which will cost 68 million euros.
The President noted that the project has an insurance cover of some 19 million euros and it is to be constructed through a joint venture.
