The NPP communication team of Subin constituency has taken note of a video, that has gone viral, claiming that Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi did not cast his vote for our President’s nominee for the Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye.
It is our considered view that the allegation has been borne out of ignorance and raw malice as we will go on to expose.
The nameless person who made this allegation is staring shame and disgrace in the face since she has proven to the whole world her ignorance of parliamentary procedures. If it is malice, then it is misplaced in the midst of this humiliation that has greeted the party with the loss of the third gentleman of the land (Speaker Of Parliament). The NPP would never condone ignorance and malice over facts.
Hon Eugene moved from his seat to the clerk for his ballot paper, brought out a pen, and it is obvious that Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, ascending the staircase to the ballot box, took some time with head bowed. It was in that time that Hon ticked or voted a point he himself has confirmed and the video footage corroborates. Hon had no reason to stay in the booth while he had already ticked and so he moved straight to the ballot box and inserted the ticked ballot paper.
Parliamentary voting does not mandate any individual to move or stay in the booth before voting. It is a tick for your candidate and that is all. The claim was directed to the fact that Hon. Eugene left his ballot paper blank but the evidence is that none of the ballot papers were blank after counting showing the ignorance and/ or malice on the part of the lady.
Any flagrant attempt by the detractors of the NPP to undermine Eugene’s well earned trust with the electorate and our party at large at this crucial time should not be tolerated. Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi is a true party man and understands what loyalty is. He has served the President and the NPP with alacrity in the 7th Parliament and we all saw it. With the experience gained, why will Hon suddenly want to jeopardize the party he so loves, and vote against his father the President, when he knows the task at hand with such a slim majority?
We entreat the public to disregard the video with the contempt it deserves and instead, join hands us we work hard to do more for our beloved Ghana.
